3 Things I wish I knew before starting with YouTube
3 Things I wish I knew before starting with YouTubeWhen you are just starting out on YouTube, it can be quite overwhelming. In this Newsletter I will share three lessons, that will help you avoid mistakes I made! Prefer listening to the Newsletter? Then go here! When you are just starting out on YouTube, it can be quite overwhelming. I have uploaded over 400 Videos and oh so many shorts… in the last three years on YouTube, so I got a bit of experience. In this Video I will give you three things I wish I knew before I started. First of all we need to talk the two different approaches when it comes to YouTube. The Entertainment Approach and the Education Approach. In this video we will cover in depth the Educational Approach, because that is what I have specialized in. Many YouTube Videos will tell you the opposite of what I’m about to tell you. I also had those three points in the wrong order. Hey friend! Welcome to Roots to Revenue. What do you think makes an educational video perfect? Is it the Video, Editing, Camera, Filming Skills, or Lighting? Nope, none of them. The biggest factor is: Speaking and Presenting! You are here to educate – so the quality of the Video is: How well are you education, aka: Helping the Viewer do – what the video is about. This will lead us now to the main Things – that I actually did wrong, but wish I would’ve know earlier. In order for you to avoid these Mistakes here they are:
Let’s dive into each one separately for me to give you the reasons why I believe so. Focus on Audio over VideoThey care more about listening to you – than to seeing you. Focus on the Audio first. Get a good Mic, get a program that can edit sound. There is nothing more distracting than to have a crackling sound or to quiet audio file. Figure this out first Then you can move on to get a decent Video setup. This studio here – wasn’t my first go at it. I leveled up as I went along. Focus on Light over CameraLighting makes such a big difference. See what big difference it makes? That’s where the difference is so important. Lighting makes a bigger difference to the viewer, than the camera does. I know the camera might make it look more fancy, but it doesn’t change the words you’re saying. So start with your Phone Camera or Webcam, get some Lights! Focus on Speaking over EditingI know that many people say – you need to learn to edit your videos. While that is true, you should learn the basic editing skills and techniques. However you don’t need to become a Master at it. If you were doing Entertainment on YouTube – editing becomes more Important, because people have a way shorter attention span. Since we are here to help people – we are supposed to help with our words. You can start using more resources and other fancy stuff, when you start getting better speaking! ConclusionAs you see – Videos for YouTube can be fairly simple. They don’t have to break the bank either. I have one last tidbit that I want to share: What is the difference between Quantity and Quality? That is often discussed and there are many opinions. As the beginner Quantity always beats Quality! When we apply what we learned in this video so far: Quality of Speech always beats Quality of Graphics. Empty words with a fancy Video – won’t be helpful to anyone… So focus on the right kind of Quality! Not the wrong kind and get your reps in (Quantity) Until next Time on the Roots to Revenue.
