4 Limitations of a first Time Solopreneur and Dad that you need to work with!
When we are talking about starting a business. We also need to talk about out situation. Not every business model works for everybody. Depending on the goal some options may vary. One more important part to it all are your Limitations. These are harsh truths, but with the limitations at hand – we can’t do everything.
Let’s have a look at the most common limitations:
- We don’t have much money
- We don’t have much time
- We don’t have a team
- We don’t have all skills yet
On top of these we have some personal limitations as well.
We don’t have much money!
The first thing everybody will say: I don’t have that much money.
That is true for most people. Yet many plan to build a Unicorn and dream about a $100 Million Dollar exit.
With the resources you have, you won’t get there First. I’m not saying you will never get there, just that it takes some more work.
We need to understand if we are building a house to live or a house to sell – That is the difference between a Lifestyle Business and a Growth Business.
Most of us lack the funding for a Growth Business. So we will focus on the Lifestyle Business.
→ Bootstrap your Lifestyle Business!
We don’t have much time!
This is another very common Limitation. When I was in University – I could do what I want and I had a lot more Free Time. That is also true for High School Students. But as Dads working a 9to5 there is not that much free time. That is just the truth. Every minute we spend starting a business is a minute we don’t spend with our kids. That is a tough cut.
This brings me to the next Important Takeaway: We need to start with a focus on the right things!
We can’t really fail our way to success. From 0 to 100 right away. We need to get some help.
We need to have a fast track to get going.
This is where I come in!
I am here to help you fail your way to success from 60 to 100.
I have spend 6 years and almost $50.000 on my journey to earn my first $1 online.
Now I can say, that I can speed things up way faster. In only 100 Days working 1-2 hours per day – you will be able to earn your first $1.
I know this doesn’t sound like much and many Gurus will tell you: Earn your first $10.000 per month in 30 days. Which I have tried and has taken me 6 years… So don’t fall for fast.
Starting a business takes time, because we have to learn some skills and gaining Momentum just takes time.
We don’t have a Team!
Since we are starting out of our own Bedroom, we don’t have a Team. We will be working mostly alone in solitude. That is making starting a business a lot harder. Things come easier to teams.
Teams can share workload, have more capacity and can help each other out. Also for mental clarity it helps to have a Team.
This brings us to the next Takeaway: We need to start small!
We can get started. We just need to take it one step at a time. This is another reason why we are starting a Lifestyle Business and not a Growth Business. We couldn’t sustain the Growth Timeline.
Another big help from my experience is to find a group of likeminded People. If you are interested in a Solopreneur – Dad Community reach out to me! I am starting with a cohort group soon!
We don’t have all Skills yet!
The last important limitation is our Skillset. We lack skills. I know this sounds untrue – because you are an expert in your field and you have been working in a job for years.
I’m not saying you’re not good at what you do – All I am referring to is: A Lifestyle Business has some skills it requires. You need to build those skills up. There is a learning curve to it.
There is Business Finances, Copywriting, Webdevelopment, Content Creation and a few more skills that will be essential to bootstrapping your way out of the 9to5.
The Key Takeaway here is: Start with a Micro-Product. If the product is small you have time and headspace to learn and practice all the other skills. It gets you going out the door. You can publish the product fast and get your first real time learnings in.
This is where you will be faster to your own Road of Failing to Success. You don’t even know how important that is!
Let’s recap the Key Takeaways how to work with your Limitations:
- We don’t have much money → We need to bootstrap
- We don’t have much time → We need to focus on the right things
- We don’t have a team → We need to think small
- We don’t have all skills yet → We need to start Micro
