400+ Uploads to YouTube Taught Me This

Six years ago I wanted to start my company.
I was all focused on building out my product, because surely when I post about it on YouTube, people will come in millions.
Call it naive or unprepared — that was my idea.

Becoming a YouTuber is easy.
Just post a video and people will line up.

The first few videos were pretty fun.
I enjoyed filming.
Then I thought people would listen.
It was fun.
And then came the upload.
I clicked on publish…
And now I was going to be a famous YouTuber.

What I didn’t realize was that posting on YouTube is not that easy.

I have uploaded over 400 since then to multiple channels.

The interesting thing is that my channel with 4,420 subscribers is in the top 10% of YouTube.
We often have the feeling that we have a small channel — yet most channels are small.

The question becomes: how do you use YouTube for your business and don’t make YouTube your business?

That’s an important difference.
We need to be aware of that difference.

YouTube is the no. 1 driver for business — because even when you’re not uploading, you’ll get views.

That is the single most powerful driver for your business.
Most social media dry up when you’re not active.
YouTube — you can post it, and it will grow.

However,
YouTube shouldn’t be your business.
It should drive your business.

Starting a business is hard.It takes a lot to actually make it work.Building a business — like everything in life — has a price. I am all for doing a lot and being ambitious.Yet, I see a lot of founders/entrepreneurs being reckless. They break a lot of trust while they are not even getting started. There is a big difference between being relentless and being reckless: Reckless is uncontrolled and not directed. Relentless is about being controlled and knowing where you want to go. You can show…

  • How I’ve posted a daily Newsletter for 100 days

For the longest time, people have said:“Send a Newsletter. You need to own your list. You need to write a weekly Newsletter.” It took me over 4 years to even send my first Newsletter. I tried to follow the advice of all the industry leaders. Until one in-depth Newsletter a week. When I looked at their schedule, they said to work 2 hours per day. At the end of the week, you have a 3,000-word Newsletter. It will take 12 minutes to read that Newsletter. When I receive those Newsletters, some…

  • Build With Leverage, Not Burnout

There is a limit to the work we can do. We all have 24 hours in a day. We might have a different energy level to start, but in the evening, our energy will be spent. The only way to do more is by building with leverage. It used to be that we needed to lift the heavy stones by hand. Then they developed the crane. Now one person could pull the rope and pull up the rock alone. We can have multiple levers. When I was younger, I rode my bike everywhere to school. There was a limit to how fast I…

  • Should you be authentic?

Hey Reader, No matter where I look right now, people tell me to be more authentic. Is that really helpful though? I don’t think so. Let me explain why. Being authentic could mean that you’re relatable and personal. It is to be honest. This is what I would understand as being authentic. There is also a different meaning to it. Not many people would describe it as such, but you can observe the behaviors. In reality, a person says “I’m authentic” when they give their unfiltered opinion. Being…

  • Is purpose just a wild goose chase?

I’m fascinated by the pursuit of purpose. I have been trying to find my purpose for years. I spent hours journaling. Trying to figure out what I should do. I have felt all hyped up and sprint forward — only to feel all lost again a few months down the road. There seems to be a cultural obsession to finding your purpose, your big mission for your life. Yet in reality, it feels like a wild goose chase. The more you feel like you have found your purpose — the more it seems to slip away. The more…

  • Don’t Be Scared of a Post to Fail

Social media gets pretty boring.I read the same posts over and over again. Why do most people post the same stuff? It feels like there is nobody sharing fresh ideas. There are waves of trends. As soon as somebody posts something good,it gets reposted, repurposed a hundred times. They all look alike.Sound alike. Are there no new ideas? I believe it’s for one reason: Because people are actually scared their post won’t get enough likes. They hold back their genuine self, fresh thoughts, and new…
