Caught in the Hustle Trap?

It doesn’t matter what I do.
I start out well balanced.
With my priorities defined.
Over time I tend to lose it and dive too deep.
I get caught by the Hustle Trap.

With time I self-protect better and I don’t burn out as much as I used to.
Somehow I know what not to do and then still fall for it.

I’m so excited to do the work that I skip breaks that I should take.
I sometimes end up thinking the amount I work is a badge of honor.
This is the problem.

It’s like the frog in the pot.
He doesn’t notice it’s getting hot until it’s too late.

The hustle culture and lifestyle is deeply embedded in our world.
Work today is measured by how much time you spend working.
Sadly, the amount of time spent working is not equal to the work done.

This is it.

By now, I’m taking a step back each 12 weeks to look at what is happening,
just to make sure the hustle trap doesn’t put me back on the wrong path.
This is to make sure to live to a season, not to a year.

It’s cool how the math works out:
Instead of 12 months, I focus on 12 weeks.
This means in 4 seasons of 12 weeks, I have 48 weeks.

A year has 52 weeks.
Which gives me 1 week to step back every 12 weeks.

So we have a cycle of 13 weeks for four seasons of the year.
This structure helps me break the year down
and helps me stay on track
to not fall into the hustle trap.

  • More knowledge is not the answer

I do like reading books. There is something about reading a book on the couch that is relaxing. It is a lot slower to read a book than to watch 10 YouTube videos in 2x speed. We live in an era of endless information. We can find an answer to every question in 1000 videos. Yet we keep looking for the golden shard to build our sensation. The one missing piece that will make the rest fall into place. I am also a knowledge junkie. I like to be informed before I take action. I have spent years…

  • 30 before 30

30 before 30 Now that I’m 29 years old – I’m wondering what do I want to do with my next year? What do I want to do before I turn 30? As I have been working on my business to become the Present Provider for my family – I have noticed a trend. Most people set an income goal. So have I in the last years. Now that I have a few years on my back – I realize it is better to focus on Impact. Impact over Income. It is not how much I can get out – it is how much I can give. My goal is to reach 30K…

When I took time off for the family,it felt like I was missing out on getting stuff done. It’s a virus of being busy. When we get asked today,“How are you?”How often do we reply:“Busy.” We’ve started…

  • Don’t do it for the money.

Hey Reader, I know making money is important. You need to make money to run your business. Many people have said it before me: Don’t just do something for the money. Do it for helping the people.Do it for the bigger picture.Do it for the fun.Do it for the curiosity. But don’t do it for the money. Time and time again I observe men starting a business. They heard that Real Estate, eCommerce or Online Courses is where the money is made. Then they get started. Until they quit. I’ve seen it time and…

  • Who Not Why

Simon Sinek became known for the idea: “Start with why.” All of a sudden, we were talking about purpose. The question of why started for many the search of reason and purpose. Our why was the starting point for our mission. I love talking about why and your life’s purpose. However, I find that why is not the best place to start. When Frodo took the ring, he acted — not because of purpose, but because of position. He was already in possession of the ring, and he had to do something to help his…

  • Should you be authentic?

Hey Reader, No matter where I look right now, people tell me to be more authentic. Is that really helpful though? I don’t think so. Let me explain why. Being authentic could mean that you’re relatable and personal. It is to be honest. This is what I would understand as being authentic. There is also a different meaning to it. Not many people would describe it as such, but you can observe the behaviors. In reality, a person says “I’m authentic” when they give their unfiltered opinion. Being…
