Documenting vs. Creating: The Real Difference – PPL #167
Years ago I heard the statement “document, don’t create” by Gary Vee.
I was all in on content creation.
I really tried hard to understand the difference.
The obvious meaning is to not sit down and record a video for the video’s sake.
This is what Gary Vee does. He is speaking on stage, in his livestreams and also in calls. That is also recorded and then posted online.
This idea works great when you’re always on the go and speaking on stage often.
I didn’t. I felt like I can’t do much.
I used to watch.
Years later I’m starting to crack through this bubble.
I’m creating to help my clients.
I’m writing the newsletter to clients.
I’m posting on social media for clients.
Yet there is an important distinction.
I’m making sure that every piece is speaking out of my life (document) and it works as a standalone piece.
This gives me the opportunity to talk to my clients in the way they prefer and on the platform of their choice.
And it is also packaged for non-clients to work.
I want to meet you where you are at, and then take you along for the journey.
The difference is that my clients speak more directly to me and have more in-depth discussions.
