Get digging for your well.

Greetings Reader,

When we look at businesses we often look at their cashflow. Are they making money.

Recently I was a speaker at a founder event and I noticed one thing. They’re all obsessed with funding.

They try to apply for funding. They write a business plan to get funding. Build their MVP to show their ideas to investors.

This observation is also true with a lot of businesses. They are so focused on closing, collecting cash that they sacrifice their brand for the quick paycheck.

One recent example is the Anthropic Pentagon deal. Anthropic grew their brand by standing ground. Open AI then closed it and didn’t communicate well.

Anthropic has a surge in new customers with their Brand Values being displayed.

Open AI has a new deal and really took a hit on their Brand Image.

There are two lessons I take from it:

First and most clear: Don’t chase money. Focus on your people. Create Impact and Income will follow.

The second one is harder to see, but when you see it, it will change your perspective of business: Every business needs to survive, but only few build the well in the desert. The well for a business is the Brand. A good and healthy brand that has trust and reputation will get you to survive in the desert.

Most don’t build their brand. When troubles come they only compete on price. That’s the best way to die.

So get digging for your well. Grow your brand.

Yours in Stewardship

Jowi

  • It All Comes Back to Communication

Greetings Reader, Over the weekend I had a few chats with a friend on the effects of AI. We will be in for a ride. Sure the opportunities are endless. It will get stronger and better, but it also feels like we’re losing more and more the human touch. I’m trying to figure out how to talk about business without touching the subject of AI. The development is just so much faster than I anticipated. I’ve been in this space now since the launch of GPT 3,5. And it’s been a wild ride. I can promise…

  • The Three Models That Help You Move Fast

Greetings Reader, Last night I spoke with a lot of Founders at a local event. There is one pattern that kept coming up. I’m planning this. I’m waiting on this. I haven’t gotten the feedback yet. All those statements are holding your business back. They will lock and keep you stuck, because you gave the power to act away. Over the past years I’ve tried to study the greed and there are three models that help you move fast. Urgency is the mover. Urgency means to just close the gap between…

  • The Fight Between Persuasion and Manipulation

Greetings Reader, Recently I did a deep dive into the world of communication. There are generally two different skillsets to communication. One is the personal communication. Your journal to your dinner table conversation. When we enter the arena of public communications we have a lot of traditions. We have the historic school of the Orator – aka. Speaker. Over the centuries we have seen a specialization. The speaker was trained in propaganda. The Art of public persuasion. After the second…

  • The Hidden Truth Behind Consistency (not many know)

The first advice people will hear is to be consistent. Post daily. Stick to your schedule. Be consistent. Most give this advice without giving you the understanding of why it matters. “When everybody is consistent, I’m not able to stand out.” That’s what I often hear as a response. “I need to focus on my quality, since everybody is focused on quantity.” This is also a false belief. Since you don’t even know what quantity is. So back to the advice to be consistent. Most people that try…

  • Don’t chase cheap leads

All businesses are constantly on the lookout for fast, cheap leads. They want to get new leads ASAP. A lot of founders opt for tactics to grow. Tactics might get you leads today — but the thing is:Tactics change fast. Growing your business with tactics is like day trading. The top 1% is making money, but the rest is paying for it. There is no scalable, reliable growth for your business gambling with tactics. There is a secret behind the top 1%: They use tactics on top of systems. We need to…
