Profit Isn’t the Point
When I look around online, I see content all over the place talking about making more money, getting more profit.
How to scale to make more — and the holy grail for the digital business is monthly recurring revenue (MRR).
I’m also watching those videos, and I’m also too often only focused on the money.
This, however, is flawed.
Profit is not the purpose of a business.
Profit only enables us to fulfill our purpose.
We need to understand this difference.
The goal of any business is to help your community move forward.
When you focus on serving real people, that’s when profit shows up.
Sure, we need to know our numbers. So we can actually make a profit.
But:
The profit is not the sole purpose of existing.
It’s just necessary to keep living.
I know many of you start a business to provide for your family.
That’s an important purpose for you to go into business.
It is, however, a bad reason for your business to exist.
We need to differentiate those two.
Your clients won’t come to you because you want to make profit to feed your family.
That is good and helpful.
It can’t be the first thing though.
So sit back and ask yourself:
How are you serving your clients?
This answer is an important driver.
