For the longest time I believed sales and marketing to be two different things. They are however deeply connected. One lesson I learned the hard way.
In my first venture I thought that all you need is to do Marketing. When people come to you, they also buy.
Well nobody came. In reality even in Marketing you are selling the next step.
The more I do both Marketing and Sales I noticed something interesting.
There is one thing that makes all the action easier. Marketing is to make your business known and to connect to people. Sales is the commitment and conversion.
There is something that can make it all easier or harder. That is your reputation and affiliations. We call this your Brand.
My mother told me not to hang with this crowd of kids, because their reputation was bad and they would have a bad influence on me.
This is in essence why Branding always matters. That’s why Coke and Pepsi play together. They are both building their reputation and are showing each other that they are the only two that matter.
If you don’t like one, you probably drink the other…
Now the question is how do we build this intentionally?
Its an act of biology. We need to grow an ecosystem.
Your Marketing, Sales, Service and Network all play together. Your Marketing can be great, but when all your customers aren’t happy. Your Branding is bad.
