What If Work Felt Like Play?
Hey Reader,
I’ve been thinking about something uncomfortable lately.
Most of us got into business because we wanted freedom. But somewhere along the way, we built ourselves another prison.
We traded one set of obligations for another. We swapped a boss for clients. We replaced a schedule we hated with a schedule we created that we still resent.
And here’s the question that keeps coming up: What if I built my business around what I actually enjoy?
Not what’s supposed to work. Not what the experts say to do. What I genuinely want to spend my time on.
I love games. Strategy. Problem solving. Building worlds and systems. And for years I thought that meant I wasn’t serious about business. That real entrepreneurs sacrifice what they love for what makes money.
But what if that’s backwards?
What if the people who win long term are the ones who figure out how to make their work feel more like play? Not in a childish way. But in a way where the work itself is inherently interesting.
The hard part is this: You can’t just play games all day and call it business. But you can ask what elements of play could shape how you build your business.
For me, it’s systems. I love building repeatable systems the way some people love building in video games. So I built my business around creating systems for other people.
The question for you: What do you actually enjoy that you’ve been treating as a distraction from real work?
Your move: Write down three things you’d do even if no one paid you. Then ask: How could one of these become part of how I serve people? Not the hobby itself. The skill or perspective it gives you.
Your business should energize you, not just drain you for money.
