Who Not Why

Simon Sinek became known for the idea: “Start with why.”
All of a sudden, we were talking about purpose.

The question of why started for many the search of reason and purpose.
Our why was the starting point for our mission.
I love talking about why and your life’s purpose.

However, I find that why is not the best place to start.

When Frodo took the ring, he acted —
not because of purpose, but because of position.
He was already in possession of the ring,
and he had to do something to help his people.

Even when we look at Harry Potter.
He didn’t act because of purpose.
He acted because of his position to be able to do something —
or at least he felt the need to do something.

Purpose is easy to see in the retrospective.
We get too often carried away by the big question of why.

When we could just look at the next person with a problem
that we are positioned to help.

We should be more focused on the who than on the why.

Focus on action — and the purpose will show up.
We have a tendency to look at the purpose
when we are a guide without the hero.

Look for the struggling hero around you.
Help him on his journey.
Then you’ll get closer to your why along the way.

So start with who.
Who not why.

This is the core driver of productivity types: Getting more done with the time they have. It’s all about efficiency. • Declare War on the Hustle

I have to admit something.I love my business and I really enjoy building businesses. That might not be that surprising. The surprising side is that I’m proud of how much I work. 50 hours a week is a good baseline. (I’m actively not counting all things because the shadow schedule is a lot bigger.) I started my business to build for my family, not to run from them. Now I have a business that hides me from my family. When I’m not working, I feel bad about not getting more done. So I get back to…

  • Why More Leads Might Hurt You

I see this all over the internet. People talk about needing more leads, or more new clients. My DMs are full with outreach offering me more leads. The reality is that most think they need more leads, when in reality they don’t have a good enough offer. Focus to help one person better, more and effective. Then you will have something to offer that is power. Take that out into the world and you’ll see:suddenly leads become easier. More leads doesn’t automatically grow your business. When you…

  • The Effective Man is a Dangerous Man

Hey Reader, What’s the difference between a dog and a wolf? You might say one is tamed while the other is a wild animal. You might say one is a pet and the other is dangerous. Those are true. But here’s one more interesting observation. When I was studying wild life, I also studied wolves. There is a major difference in how a wolf and a dog move. It is one of the best differentiators for their tracks: The dog strolls while the wolf strides. When you observe a dog, he goes from tree to tree….

  • Make Your Business a Habit

I used to rearrange my to-do lists at least once a week. The issue was that I kept planning my perfect week. I kept making elaborate plans. This is what productivity has taught me: I need to plan for efficiency. But the truth is even more simple than that: Make building your business a habit. I write this today as I have just reached a pretty big milestone. I have published 100 newslettersconsistently. What was overwhelming in the beginning now feels like a normal thing to do.
