Why We Do What We Do: The Dad’s Perspective on Motivation and Purpose
Welcome back, dads! I’m glad you’re here because today I want to talk about something a bit deeper—the reasons behind why we do what we do as fathers. This isn’t just about the actions we take but the underlying motivations that drive us every day.
Wearing Many Hats as a Dad
As dads, we juggle many responsibilities, and sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of why we’re doing everything we do. Often, we find ourselves going through the motions simply because it’s what we’ve always done or because it’s expected of us. But what’s the real reason behind our actions, especially when it comes to starting a side hustle or a business that demands even more of our already limited time?
Putting Family First
At the heart of it, the reason we do what we do is simple: we want to put our families first. We strive to do things that benefit our children and our spouses. We want to help them grow, provide for them, and create a life that’s enjoyable and fulfilling for everyone involved. This is the driving force behind why we get up in the morning and take on the challenges of the day.
The Provider Role
One of our primary responsibilities as dads is to be the provider. Traditionally, this has meant securing a stable income, often through a salary-based job. But for many of us, there’s also the desire to explore other avenues, like starting a business. The goal of the business isn’t necessarily to become a massive startup success but to create a stable income that allows us to support our families while also offering more flexibility and independence.
Creating Opportunities and Memories
Another key motivation is to provide our families with the means and opportunities to experience life together. Whether it’s through travel, outdoor adventures, or simply spending quality time together, these moments are what make life meaningful. For me, as someone who loves nature, it’s about being able to go camping and explore the outdoors with my family, creating memories that we can look back on fondly.
Sharing Life with Your Family
One of the main reasons I’m motivated to start my own business is the desire to share my life with my family, not just my work colleagues. It’s about integrating my professional life with my personal life so that my family can be part of my experiences, struggles, and successes. I want to build something that they can be a part of, that we can all grow together.
What Motivates You?
So, what about you? Why do you do the things you do? What gets you out of bed in the morning? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, so feel free to share them in the comments below.
