Why you shouldn’t create content for yourself…
There is a common misconception:
People think they should write about anything they find interesting.
Like they are creating things that they would like to read.
I’ve seen this often in my coaching.
The business owner comes to me saying that:
“Content doesn’t work. It’s too time consuming. And it’s not getting leads.”
When I check their content, most of the time I see that they have been posting articles that they find interesting and wanted to research.
As a result, they show up in their expert circle with other experts.
The writing also took so much time — because they had to do all the research.
And then no leads came in the door — because they were only talking to peers.
When we change the focus to the people following behind him,
we start talking about topics he has done for years.
The time goes down to write — because he has talked about it so much.
It’s just a quick recall of what he’s done for years.
And we actually start talking to people that he can help.
That’s why:
You shouldn’t focus on what you’d like to read — but more on what you’ve done in the past.
