Your Industry Doesn’t Matter

Hey Reader,

I have seen this topic a lot on X/Twitter.
There is an issue I see in how many businesses start:

They start with the topic or industry first.

This is easy—because you don’t need to put a lot of thought into it.

But there’s a big flaw.

I don’t want to be known in an industry.
I’d rather be known to my people.

On first sight, it seems like there is no difference.
But when you dive deeper—there is a large difference.

When you’re known as a Fitness Coach, writing a book might be still close enough.
Having an app changes your industry, because you’re now running a software company.

The way I approach my business is:
People first. My people.

Then I understand their pains and problems—so that I can help them how they need it.

This might be coaching.
It could be consulting or fulfillment.

Then—I switched all of a sudden from being a coach to running an agency.
At the same time I’m a content creator.
I’m helping people with their business,
but I’m talking about faith and family too.

In some sense it’s like a public figure.
Sure, you could try to put me in an industry—
but I don’t look at my industry.

I’m focused to help you serve your family,
become a better man,
and use your God-given talents for greater impact on this earth.

We are building a business because that’s the best vehicle I’ve found to get this done.

That’s it.

This is why I move vertically and also make more specific shows.
Glad I wrote this down—it really drives me to stay focused on my people.
So spread wide, but also stay close.

Keep chopping Wood!

We all go through our life with struggles and hope. Dreams and pains. We all make it through our days. Then all of a sudden, something happens. We need to make a decision. With all that pressure on my back, my son was all happy to see me. He slept so peacefully. I was up at 2 am. What am I going to do next? I was absent, caught in my own thoughts. I…

He has a blast and we all enjoy watching him.He looks pretty cute. I see a similar pattern in most Personal Brands. They play pretend business. They see the big guys on…

  • Don’t Follow Fishermen, Follow the Fish

Hey Reader, In business, we are often tempted to jump on big trends. We often feel like we’re missing out if we don’t. Especially at the beginning, it’s hard. The question is: how do you get started? You should go where the fish are. Don’t blindly follow the advice of the fishermen. The fish is the spot, not the fishermen. The rest will follow long after. A friend and I went fishing together. When we arrived at the lake, it was often that way that others were leaving. So you just lost. Ash…

  • More Content Won’t Save a Bad Offer

One thing that comes up in my coaching calls a lot is that people want to just create more content. The client wishes to work more on content.Content creation definitely has a lot of value. I also enjoy it—the work. Yet creating more content only helps when we have a business in the booth. More content is not going to fix your offer problem. I have tried this many times—and it doesn’t work. I have grown a YouTube channel to be monetized to get the clicks to my offer. Because I was so focused…
